A POLYCHROME WOOD STORAGE TRUNK

Tibet, 17th/18th c.

The rectangular trunk with hinged cover, painted to the front with a central panel containing various circular and square medallions linked to each other by small bands, within a border of scrolling tendrils, the top with central rectangular cartouche decorated with a floral design around a triratna, both sides with remains of red pigments and the backside deprived of any decoration, the whole trunk strengthened with metal nails and metal slot to its front, the inside covered with cotton.
